Zoom Sessions

What is a writer to do with the feelings, experiences, and memories which drive them to write? We will take the body as raw material for writing. Practical activities offer the opportunity to write fiction which responds to the bodily sensations that so often defy words. For writers at all levels.

About the Event

About the Workshop

In the session, you will:

  • Examine what writing ‘from the body’ means for you in your individual practice
  • Participate in activities which explore how writing is an embodied activity
  • Encounter readings which show how awareness of your body, or the relations between bodies, can have a material effect on your writing
  • Undertake practical writing activities which offer different ways of rendering bodily experiences in prose

After the session, you will have:

  • An ability to articulate succinctly what role the body plays in your writing practice
  • Relationships with other attendees who you will have discussed the workshops’ themes with in group activities
  • Awareness of how your work fits with contemporary trends such as autofiction
  • Pieces of writing worked on in the course, designed to provide the spark for longer writing projects afterwards, or to provide a re-invigorated approach to projects you are working on already

Darryl is aware that some writers will want to take both the Fiction and Non-Fiction workshops together or stand alone and he has planned these workshops accordingly.

IF YOU PURCHASE A TICKET FOR THIS EVENT YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE A TICKET FOR THE WRITING FROM THE BODY NON-FICTION WORKSHOP TAKING PLACE A WEEK LATER AT A REDUCED PRICE OF £10 - IT'S CALLED THE SERIES TICKET.

Who is the workshop for?

For writers at all levels including beginners.

Beginners, emerging writers, prose writers (fiction and non-fiction); also relevant for poets and other writers with interest in growing their engagement with prose
